TENTACLE OSCILLATOR
pic
This is was a commission from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. It has been used on several occasions for the closing act of the song "Sleeping on the Roof", being used during their live performance for the closing sequence of the last song from the album "The Soft Bulletin" and works as a great stage prop that has a lot of character to it. The tentacle oscillator was built with a tone and volume control, as well as positionable tentacles equipped with a photocell on each end. Each tentacle produces its own sound, all of which are initally tuned to the same frequency, so the noise produced creates a sort of 'wall of sound' with the 6 notes being played simoultaneously. There are several versions of this in use, with new prototypes that further expand upon this concept, including a kit.

This was the previous version of this that I had made. It was housed inside of a transparent case, so the circuit had an omnidirectional input. The newer version is very bidirectional, so the pitch for the individual inputs are much easier to control.
